We came to celebrate my birthday and to check out Peter Bernstein, a jazz guitarist. He was playing with faculty and students from nearby San Diego State University.

We settled into our cabaret-style table with a negroni, which was perfect. Our table mates entertained us with stories of their over-55 community while we waited for the set to begin. First, a group of students played a chart. They were impressively good.

Peter Bernstein and the band played a strong set of his compositions and standards. They played from a stage that featured a golden clamshell.
