Our favorite jazz venue is the Bach Dynamite and Dancing Society. To keep the flame burning, we sponsored a recent show by David Sánchez and his quintet.

We started our Sunday adventure on the fabulous deck, overlooking the Pacific. The ocean was calm and silver-toned, with occasional slow waves crashing into the shore. Together with our guests – Micah, Glenn and Liz, and Judi and Nick – we had a cornucopia of snacks to enjoy. We were in good spirits.

At 4:30 pm, the show began in the listening room. Every player was individually amazing: piano, bass, drums, congas, and, of course, David Sánchez on saxophone. The music was intense and immersive, especially from our up-close seats. All the compositions had latin roots. David explained that most compositions drew on specific Puerto Rican rhythms or settings. Many were from the album called “Carib.” It was a killer show!

Afterwards, we took the nice photo above with David.
