Upon arriving in Vancouver for the AAAI Conference, I took a photo walk and water taxi to False Creek. In two hours it was misty, then sunny, then it hailed, then sunny, then gale force winds. Welcome to Vancouver! There is a wonderful public market on Granville Island, and I found smoked salmon, some rice paper rolls, and a little soup for lunch. Granville Island was an industrial area and became an art gallery area, perhaps best illustrated by the “Giants” painted onto cement towers. The final photo is from the conference site, the next morning.
One funny thing is that I stayed in the Paradox Hotel, which I later learned had been the Trump Tower of Vancouver. But no more. It had remote controls to open and close the hotel room shades.
OK, I’m going to close with a math joke. I tried to take an Uber to the Paradox Hotel, but my driver was Xeno. I got half way there and he stopped, then I asked him to get me closer, and he went half way again. I could never get Xeno to take me all the way to the Paradox.
