We celebrated Audrey’s 60th Birthday with a gathering of friends and family in Madison, Wisconsin. A weekend of fun!
Friday
We started the morning with Molly and Jeff, who were first to arrive. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast at Marigold Kitchen, across from the state capitol. After a walk to see Audrey’s office in WisDems HQ, we toured the capitol which has spectacular marble and is generally grand.
Then we went apple picking. After a briefing and tasting of all the varieties in the orchard, we picked some jonamac and cortland apples. Yum!
The family soon arrived and so did Kamala Harris. A highlight of the weekend was attending her Madison Rally. There’s a separate blog about the rally.
For dinner that night, we went to nearby Sardine, a french bistro.
Saturday
Everyone stayed in the Embassy Suites, which treated us all to breakfast. Then we toured the famous Dane County Farmer’s Market and picked up supplies.
Sarah made amazing t-shirts for all, featuring the “Notorious ASG”—Audrey as her favorite Supreme.
We all wore the shirts for a pontoon boat ride on Lake Mendota, traveling across the lake to a picnic. Of course, the picnic featured our purchases from the farmer’s market. After the picnic, we saw a storm approaching from the west. Fortunately, our dock was to the east. Our captain made a run for it, and we made it back before the rain.
The big dinner was at a restaurant called Pig in a Fur Coat. We got the chef’s tasting menu and dishes just kept coming; lots of things to taste and enjoy. The guests each shared special stories for Audrey. A warm, loving conclusion to a extended weekend together.
Thanks to all who came to celebrate with Audrey!
